VINTAGE SNAPSHOT WALT DISNEY ITS A SMALL WORLD NEW YORK WORLDS FAIR PEPSI 1964

🔍 1. Text in the Image

  • The sign clearly reads:

    "PEPSI-COLA presents WALT DISNEY'S It's a Small World"

This exact phrasing only existed at the 1964–1965 New York World’s Fair, where Pepsi sponsored the debut of Walt Disney’s “It’s a Small World” attraction.

After the fair, the ride was moved to Disneyland — but without Pepsi branding.

🏛️ 2. Unique Architecture and Layout

  • In the center background, there is a tall modernist structure with stylized banners and abstract shapes. This is the Tower of the Four Winds, created by Disney Imagineer Rolly Crump, built specifically for the fair.

    • It stood only at the 1964 World’s Fair.

    • It was dismantled after the fair and never rebuilt elsewhere.

  • The large pavilion behind it is the Ford Pavilion, which featured the “Magic Skyway” (also a Disney-designed ride).

    • Its distinct octagonal shape and the visible Ford logo help confirm its identity.

🕰️ 3. Date Stamp

  • The photo is marked:

    SEP 64
That date directly aligns with the first season of the 1964–1965 New York World’s Fair (which opened April 22, 1964).

📍 4. Known Layout of the Fair

  • The Pepsi “It’s a Small World” pavilion and the Ford Pavilion were located very close to each other on the fairgrounds.

  • Their relative positions in your photo match a known viewing angle from near the "Swiss Sky Ride" or Unisphere area, which also lines up with the elevated perspective in your image.
